Brown Flowers

Brown Flowers
Why do the flowers on my peony bush open and then turn brown and die 1-2 days later?

I have 5 peony bushes. Full sun/morning sun/afternoon sun…all different. They ALL bloom and then turn brown and die in 1-2 days.

Not sure what’s going on there. Peonies are not a long-lasting flower, but generally 3-6 days is about right. And when they’re done, they keep opening, and relaxing, and drop their petals….not turn brown.

Has it been rainy? or overheard irrigation or sprinklers? If the flowers themselves are getting wet while in bloom, that will definitely cut short their bloom time. There is a fungal problem that will cause the un-opened buds to turn brown and die before they open, but because yours are opening, that doesn’t sound like the issue.

Or if you are watering them, that might be a factor, as they don’t like “wet feet”. If you live in a climate with moderate rainfall, you should never need to water established peonies. I never water mine. (You didn’t mention if you water them, but I’m grasping at straws here)
