Is your personal "Comfort Zone" Holding You Back?
Recently, a start-up social marketing executive Silicon Valley has been quoted as saying: "If you are comfortable when you Start your website waiting for you to be late."
In other words, if you felt comfortable then this safe, comfortable feeling was a sign that one has fallen behind the innovation curve, a disadvantage for success. The conclusion was that innovation is by nature a rather weak and uncertain thing, and that makes it a "comfort" is very bad strategy.
Theodore Roosevelt called the Comfort Zone "The Gray Twilight" and those who lived there "low spirits". They enjoyed not suffered much much more and in fact, in his opinion they do not really live very much.
When we returned to the origins of social psychology and evolutionary psychology learn quickly that we never were our ancestors in a so-called comfort zone. The Life was hard and a daily struggle for survival. This does not mean there was never time to relax and enjoy … just not much time.
Recent theories human evolution speculate that the human gene mutations occurred 50,000 and one million years. These mutations were important because the size of the brain and Skull base capacity increased.
The "purpose" of these mutations was to the survival of our human team to the edge, has different evolutionary advantages think.
The ability to think was both the individual and the tribe of the edge. When things got difficult, the thinking brain could Figure out ways to find a solution.
Our noble cousins, the chimpanzees, monkeys, and could not do that or at least do it on our level. Therefore our ancestors called hominids and apes-looking "other animals" Monkeys are known.
The net result is a species in the zoo and the other on the outside looking in.
The hard truth is, we are not wired for comfort. We are wired to the challenge and contrast. Perhaps feeling "Feel in their own skin probably is not how we are wired to us. Can our own self-confidence are holding us back?
If we fail to recognize self-confidence for a free and inquiring mind? Is a free and inquiring mind, perhaps our evolutionary advantage, inherently uncomfortable?
Can routine performance and success can be in a comfort zone that dampens both potential and real innovation? Are free, inquiring and open minds threatened by social norms and conformity? Have the comfort zone prevent the performance and success in fact that more achievements and successes?
If the foundation of our comfort zone to make us averse to the risk that our hard-earned comfort zone threat? Is this the real reason so many of us are against fundamental change?
The concept can be from individuals, tribes, Communities expanded and societies.
Do companies ultimately bring about even more certain and comfortable their decline? Companies do, tired or just lazy?
Is the term "rest on our laurels" simply another way to say, the comfort zone has been reached and "That's all folks? "
Certainly, Silicon Valley has shown that residents create their own comfort zones, very little and can not compete successfully with which to do. Without the driving edge of curiosity and an inherent contempt for the status quo comfort zone a little innovation is taking place.
What if Michelangelo or Thomas Edison had stayed in their respective zones of comfort?
Interestingly, few realize this psychological nightmare and artificial construct challenges they receive from their comfort zone, which implies that, if they are comfortable and nothing they do will achieve very little.
At the lower end, is the motivation for Changes when one slipped out of the comfort zone to areas of pain, fear and frustration. No motivation or change occurs until the pain threshold is passed, and unfortunately, the human capacity for absorption of fear and frustration is very high.
Then there are others that feed at the challenge, exploration and the attraction of the new. The biggest risk they see in their lives is get into their comfort zone "black hole" and never in a position to settle out. When they start sure they feel know is wrong. Terribly wrong.
After a while the long-term in their comfort zones have little to say, learns little that is new and may indeed be the victims of negative plasticity of the brain. Individual reports, we can see this in our daily life that the bearings have in their little comfort zones to say thinking, some ideas and not much interesting.
This brings us to the painful conclusion there is no cure for stupid. Potential is only realized if the individual zone moves out of their comfort zone.
At the end of each determined by us, if they say anything good about being in your own "comfort zone". But the evidence clearly to "comfort" as an obstacle to success.
